Removing Virus
“Don’t Panic! Breathe! It’s not the end of the world, you can survive this too! “
This is probably my most uttered, pick-me-up and make-me-feel-better line these days, when I sit down to work. No! My boss is not after my life. And, no I am not drowning in a sea of paperwork, I work in a paperless office, remember? I’m talking about the daily challenges and hurdles that I have to face while working on my computer! Yes, I am talking about the very same- smart boxes that were invented to make our lives better, faster and easier, but have ended up making my professional life a bit difficult.
It might sound strange to others, who swear by the performance of their computer, but I guess I’m jinxed! Of late, my computer has developed a fondness for being unpredictable. For instance, there are times, when I have to search for information online and when I type in the name of a particular website, my computer decides it wants to take me to another one. Only sometimes, does it take pity on me and take me to the site I wanted to go to. Even then it chooses not to display images and information properly. To add to my misery, annoying pop-ups keep on disrupting my work.
Until recently I thought I was the only one who had to face this situation, however, at a lunch meeting my colleagues and I got talking. And in the midst of all the daily cribbing we do about our life, canteen food, drivers and taxis, we got talking about our computer problems. And it is then that I got to know that all of them have had to face similar problems with their computer at one point or another. As a matter of fact, the symptoms, if I may use the word, my computer was displaying were actually indicating that it was infected with a virus! It was definitely a relief to that know it was not my computer that was at fault, but external software that was creating problems for me. This new piece of information got me curious and being the inquisitive person that I am I badgered my colleagues into telling me more.
Well from the information I gathered, I guess my computer is slightly better off! But problems with internet explorer are only the tip of the iceberg! If I kept on ignoring this virus problem, the speed, performance and functioning of my computer could be adversely affected! I was taken aback when my colleague told me that a virus could even crash my computer’s hard disk. Imagine that! Losing data that has been collected over a number of years and which has been carefully and neatly organised into folders, in a fraction of a second!
Come to think of it there has to be a solution to this virus problem. Nothing in this world is problem free and similarly, no problem comes without a solution! Now, all I have to do is find a solution to the virus in my computer. I’m going to start looking for a solution online- and if my computer is generous and displays results according to my query, I’ll share the results of my investigation with you.
